“A friend is a friend at all times.” Proverbs 17:17 A friend is friend at all times.” (Proverbs 17:17)
God wants us to be good friends to everyone and to take care of one another. In If You Give a Mouse a Cookie the boy takes care of the mouse the way a friend should. He keeps helping the mouse until the mouse has everything it needs even when the job is harder than he thought it would be. We know from Scripture that God wants us to help others. One example is in the Gospel of Luke (10: 30-37); we learn about the Good Samaritan who was a good friend to the man injured by robbers. Like the boy in the story, the Samaritan took time to care for the injured man even though it involved effort and personal expense. On this page, you will find: (1) Life Connections: an opportunity to reflect - as adults - on how the story of the boy and the mouse relates to your life. (2) Catholic Connections for Adult Disciples: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie provides an opportunity to reflect on what Catholic teaching says about Jesus’ mandate that we should love and care for all people in any situation. (3) Family Practices: ideas for teaching our children to live God’s love in concrete ways. Reflection and Discussion Questions are provided for each area so that parents and caregivers may support one another as they grow in their own faith and form children in faith. |
