Stone Soup |
God will bless you in everything you do. (Deuteronomy 10:15) Feeding the 5000 John :1-14 Stone Soup is an old folk story in which hungry strangers convince the town people to share their food. One person contributes the pot, another a carrot, another water, and of course some meat. At the end they all sit down and enjoy a wonderful meal together! And of course the special ingredient is a stone!
This folk story is very similar to the scripture story of The Feeding of the 5,000 (John 6:1-14). Who would have thought that 5 barley loaves and 2 small fish could feed 5,000 people. Of course in the Bible story Jesus performs a miracle, but the small boy shared his food with the crowd. On this page, you will find: (1) Life Connections; an opportunity to reflect - as adults - on how the story of Stone Soup relates to your life. (2) Catholic Connections for Adult Disciples: Stone Soup is a good way to remember how (3) Family Practices: Ideas for forming our children in giving and serving. Reflection and Discussion Questions are provided for each area so that parents and caregivers may support one another as they grow in their own faith and form children in faith. |
